Diary of the 2009/10 Season
A brief description of the day enjoyed each week.
Opening Meet, Bodior, 19th September 2009
Our Opening Meet last Saturday saw a sizable field hunt the Bodior
estate in Rhoscolyn, the first time for three years. Lots of
preparation went in to making a great jumping day with some rustic
fences in the woods and stone walls in the open fields. Again great
weather, but a bit too hot for the drag party who had to abandon
dress code and ditch their jackets. Fortunately the Masters and
field were made of sterner stuff! The day ended with a delicious
hunt tea ‘al fresco’, thanks to the ladies who do!
Parciau, Marian Glas, Saturday 12th September 2009
We enjoyed the second biggest field ever with over 50
enjoying the late summer weather. Great to see so many new
faces. The regulars had a few new fences to contend with and all
enjoyed four good lines of these coastal fields.
Diary of the 2008/09 Season
A brief description of the day enjoyed each week.
Y Bedol, Penysarn. Saturday 22nd November 2008
A first today - the huntsman, whips, field master and drag where
all female! A short and successful day as the weather held off for
us to enjoy what dry land we could find. Sloping fields and
dry stone walls helped to keep horses fit.
Y Groeslon, Brynsiencyn. Saturday 15th November 2008
Caroline embraced her first meet as Joint Master, as the field
followed closely! With very soft ground and the going deep,
the horses returned muddy and tired but having enjoyed a fantastic
day out.
Diary of the 2007/08 Season
Groeslon, Brynsiencyn. Saturday 19th January 2008
Back in Brynsiencyn for the second time at a meet that should
not have been. All week the weather and forecast was accompanied by
a MET weather warning and most doubted we would get out at all.
With dogged determination plans stayed in place and we enjoyed a
fantastic day. Riders had an opportunity to try a variety of
jumps from fallen logs and stick piles to dry stone walls and wooden
gates with something for everyone. The weather miraculously stayed
dry though the ground wet and we finished the day washing off the
mud in the Menai Straits.
Bedol, Penysarn. Saturday 5th January 2008
Long gallops towards the cliffs along the coast, the field
enjoyed great views out to sea. Some caught sight of a fox making
its way over farmland in the distance, but the hounds stayed on
course. A long and challenging day which again tested the
fitness of the best horses and a great day was had by all.
Glantraeth, Bodorgan. Tuesday New Years Day 2008
A new meet here from the Glantraeth and another large turnout.
The open fields of farmland and hounds covering the ground quickly,
gave chance for long gallops.
California, Bryn Teg. Tuesday Boxing Day 2007
Traditionally well supported, large numbers of riders and foot
followers joined to support an impressive send from the California.
Boxing day proved to be an exciting challenge through the paddocks
and jumps at Padricks. Riders enjoyed a short break and mince pies
Drws Y Coed, Llanerchymedd. Saturday 25th November 2007
Hosted by Tom and Jane Bown at their farm Drws Y Coed, the field
hunted farmland overseen from the farmhouse. Rain which set in
by the end of the day only served leave the riders even more
appreciative of the wonderful hospitality offered here after a great days hunting.
Mynydd Y Garn, Cemaes Bay. Saturday 17th November 2007
Introducing new hounds on a day to test the fitness and durability
of any horse proved to be highly successful. The hounds were
fast and keen through the twists and turns to avoid the gorse on the
mountain.
Rain and wind meant a short stop at the summit of the Garn at the
end of the day but views over to the Holy Island and (sometimes
Ireland) are always well worth the climb to the top.
Groeslon, Brynsiencyn. Saturday 10th November 2007
Hunting the borders of the home-grown seasonal fruit and
vegetable harvest, and passing Christmas turkeys at Hootons,
everyone had a great day in Brynsiencyn. Crossing a certain
piece of water proved the challenge this week but all riders made is
across without getting wet. We ended the day hunting through
woodland and farmland bordered by character dry stone walls.
Again along the Menai Straits, everyone enjoyed views over to
Caernarfon and Snowdonia on the mainland.
Chwaen Goch, Llanerchymedd. Saturday 3rd November 2007
Great hospitality was offered by Mr and Mrs Thomas at Chwaen.
Another big field turned out to enjoy the banks and ditches offered
here in central Anglesey. With stunning views down over Llyn Alaw
all riders had to dismount to negotiate the reservoir, crossing an
narrow bridge on foot as we headed for home.
Four Crosses, Menai Bridge. Saturday 27th October 2007
A fairly wet day hunting land down to the Menai Straits. With
established walls and farmland offering a great day for all. The
mountains of Snowdonia, a stunning backdrop.

Parciau Arms, Marian Glas. Saturday 20th October 2007
After a delay to the start of the season due to Foot and Mouth
Disease we held our Children's meet later than planned at the
Parciau Arms. With a large field we hunted over stubble, farms
and woodland between Moelfre and Marian Glas.
Diary of Additional Events 2007/08
Wales Air Ambulance Event. August 2008
Over £4000 was raised for the Wales Air Ambulance during this
Event where a large number of riders, walkers and cyclists enjoyed a
day out in Dulas. Despite a wet start the weather improved and
everyone enjoyed breathtaking scenery of Mynydd Bodafon and Dulas
Estuary, passing through farmland and along the coastline of
Anglesey. Many thanks to everyone, who supported the event,
including organisers, sponsors, marshalls, and everyone who took
part, raised sponsorship or donated to the cause and helped to make
the day the success it turned out to be.
Anglesey Riding Club Demonstration. July 2008
Junior members of the new Anglesey Riding Club enjoyed a talk where
they were invited to meet the hounds during their annual camp. After
this, the members joined in on two lines across farmland at Mynydd
Mwyn to get a taste of what is involved in drag hunting.
Hunt Ride. May 2008
A sunny day encouraged a large number of riders to the far end
of Anglesey to enjoy the coast at Mynachdy.
Hunter Trials. April 2008
A great day and turnout as horses and riders turned their skills
to the trials. Novice, Open and Pairs classes tested the
competitors at Bryn Llan Farm, Llanrug. Despite being wet
before hand, the ground was good and a great day was had by all.
Unfortunately the Air Ambulance was called during the event after a
fall but luckily Sian suffered no serious injury and hopes to be
back in the saddle again soon.
'Point to Point'. February 2008
The annual hunt 'Point to Point' event. Everyone enjoyed a
glorious day at Red Wharf Bay and were treated to refreshments and
soup on the beach. Proceeds were split in thirds between race
winners, the Anglesey Draghounds and the Alaw Unit at Ysbyty
Gwynedd.
Anglesey Drag Hunt Ball. February 2008
The end of season ball was enjoyed by all with great food and
music. With speeches, awards and special birthday
celebrations, everyone had a great time into the early hours!!
